I think the author led a far more privileged life than she cares to portray. She says her mother was an alcoholic who drank excessive amounts for all her adult life but not once does she refer to any resulting health issues. Two maids and a gardener do not add up to the deprivation she also portays. Unfortunately I feel she enjoys the self pity too much. I wish I could like just one of the people she writes about whilst professing to love and forgive them in her sanctimonious closing chapters however it seems she and her whole family are irredeemably selfish. The discovery of God and resulting perfection in her life insulted my intelligence! We are given full details of her work with abused and deprived children surely she can see that her childhood was never ever witthin those descriptions. I persisted and finished this self pity tome but wish I hadn't wasted my time.
